Tutorial - Virtual PC

This is a short how-To for everyone! At first i like to mention that virtual pcs are very practical: You can use multiple operating systems, set "rescue points" which you can reconstruct and surf through the itnernet without thinking of viruses.

A friend of mine even used it to remove the DRM protection from microsoft (I know, it's illegal, but with an virtual pc is it easy, too).

1. Install

But ok, let's start with the tutorial. There are many different supervisors which you can use. We use a free software called Virtual Box. You can downlaod it here: http://www.virtualbox.org/.

imageIt's very pretty because the host operating system (the system which is installed on a real pc) can be windows, mac os, linux or solaris.

If you install it on windows there will be a message that the drivers didn't get through the compatibility-check. Just ignore the messages.

At the first start there will be a formular which you must fill out.

2. Registration

image

VirtualBox is free, but you have to register. It will take only a few seconds. Fill in you name, email and check the checkbox if you don't want to be emailed.

3. Create a Virtual Machine

After the registration a wizard will appear:

image

if not click 'new' in the menu-bar at the top of the window. You have to name your virtual machine. It should be a name with sense, for example "Win-XP-Test" or "Copy-Station". You can leave the selection for "OS/Type" as Other/Unknown or change it, but you don't have to.

At the next stept you can define the size of the RAM.

image

the half of your real memory is not wrong. After that you have to select a virtual harddrive.

image

click "New" because you don't have a virtual harddrive :-P

A new wizard for the creation of a virtual harddrive will appear. Select the option "dynamic growing".

image

Type a name for the harddrive and define the startsize. You can install multiple operating systems on one virtual harddrive, if you want ;-)

image

After this step click finish to return to the first wizard again.

The new created virtual harddrive will be already selected. This was the last step. Click finish again.

Now you should see a window like that:

image

On the left you can see your virtual machines, on the right the details for the selected one. Now we gonna edit the settings for our created machine: slect it and click edit.

4. Advanced Settings

image

Select General and then advanced. Here you can edit the clipboard-settings.

image

At "CD/DVD-Rom" you can connect your real drive with the virtual one or select an image which will act like a cd for the virtual machine.

At "Shared folders" you can select folders to exchange files between the host- and the guest operating systems.

Howto download MP3s and Music easy and for free

Today I stumbeled over a very cool website, called "ScreemR". It calls itself The World's Greatest Mp3 Search Engine. And you can find a pretty mass of MP3s which youcan listen to directly with an integrated player or even download them by easy clickling on a HTTP-Link.

That means you will not have to install applications, such as Bearshare, Limewire or Bittorrent.

Try it now ;-)
